Teaching Strategies for Improving Algebra Knowledge in Middle and High School Students
REL Mid-Atlantic and the District of Columbia's Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) will co-host an in-person Bridge Event on improving algebra knowledge in middle and high school students.
This event will focus on research-based recommendations and strategies described in the What Works Clearinghouse practice guide Teaching Strategies for Improving Algebra Knowledge in Middle and High School Students (2015). The practice guide provides educators with resources to help students succeed in algebra and evidence-based suggestions for how to improve algebra skills and knowledge.
During the event, Jane Porath, co-author of the practice guide and a teacher of middle and secondary school mathematics for 21 years, will discuss implementation of the recommendations, potential roadblocks, and ways to work around roadblocks. She will also lead small groups in strategic planning activities, in which teams of attendees will plan ways to implement practice guide recommendations in their schools or districts.
As a result of their participation, attendees will:
Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance that validates 5 professional learning units of professional development activity.
