Join us for ACMP's Annual Fall Skills Session as we welcome renowned choral musician Michael Kemp for an afternoon of enrichment! Rejuvenating Senior Voices and Surefire Recruiting for Church Choirs, topics relevant and important to all church choir directors, singers, cantors and musicians, will be presented from 2:30 to 5:00 pm on Sunday, 16 October at Saint Philip Neri Church.

     Michael Kemp, son of the late John and Helen Kemp, is part of the legendary Kemp family dynasty of choral musicians. An internationally respected clinician for over 35 years, he has conducted and lectured at over 300 workshops and festivals in the US and Canada. He has conducted over 300 masterworks of the standard choral and orchestral repertoire. His compositions are published by Augsburg Publishing and the Choristers Guild. Michael is a Fellow of Melodious Accord and was included in the Marquis Who’s Who in America. Michael is renowned for building strong choral programs.

     Educated at Oklahoma University, Westminster Choir College, and the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague, Holland, Michael was trained equally in the areas of voice, viola, and conducting. Besides his formal education, he has studied privately with renowned choral authorities Paul Salamunovitch, Phillip Brunelle, and Alice Parker.

This session will explore a multi-faceted approach to voice building including:

Vertical Vowels and Vocal Brilliance

Open Throat Singing, Singing With Expression

Working with the Aging Voice, Tone Placement

Clarifying Your Consonants, and Recruitment!

We have worked diligently to find a convenient site for this workshop. Lafayette Hill is located near the geographical center of the Archdiocese. According to Google, it is 20 minutes from Springfield, 16 minutes from Malvern, 27 minutes from South Philadelphia, 30 minutes from NE Philadelphia, 30 minutes from Aston, 22 minutes from Cheltenham, 33 minutes from Bensalem. Saint Philip’s is only minutes from several major arteries, and has a generously sized parking lot.
