Houston Habitat's Annual Building a Dream Breakfast

At Houston Habitat for Humanity, we partner with home-buyers to build strength, stability and self-reliance. Breakfast Chairs Sherman and Nicole Lewis cordially invite you to join us for a special breakfast highlighting our home-buyers and exciting plans for the future.

Hear firsthand the story of hope and triumph of New Orleans' post-Katrina through the lens of a longtime affordable housing advocate, Jim Pate.

Special Guest
Jim Pate, Executive Director
New Orleans Area Habitat For Humanity (NOAHH)

Jim Pate’s leadership was instrumental in directing the expansion of an affiliate, as the New Orleans organization grew from a 5-home per year organization to a 30-home per year organization in 5 years.

During Hurricane Katrina and the federal floods, Pate guided the affiliate through exponential growth as a reaction to the increased need in the area.

In late 2005, Harry Connick, Jr. and Branford Marsalis came to New Orleans Habitat with an idea. Along with Jim Pate, they created the concept of Musicians’ Village, a neighborhood designed to preserve the musical heritage of New Orleans, past, present, and future. Over the course of five years, a vibrant, colorful neighborhood was built with a special focus on the musical community of New Orleans.

In the eleven years since the failure of the levees and floodwalls, New Orleans Habitat has built over 500 homes. It remains the largest homebuilder in the state of Louisiana, and the affiliate has recruited and deployed over 150,000 volunteers since then.

Please consider being a part of this experience as we discuss his unique approaches to community building while upholding the brand and mission of Habitat for Humanity.
