The Maryland Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities is pleased to present Maryland's 13th Annual Statewide Health Equity Conference, Achieving Health Equity through Community Engagement and Innovative Health Care Delivery.

Conference Overview

The 13th Annual Health Equity Conference will promote the exchange of innovative community engagement and health care delivery ideas between professionals from government, hospitals, community-based organizations, industry, academia and local communities.

Educational and interactive presentations, panel discussions and breakout sessions will identify successes, challenges and best practices for engaging communities to eliminate health disparities and improve population health.

The goal of the conference is to highlight community engagement programs and innovative strategies that have been implemented in the state of Maryland to address the social determinants of health and engage communities in preventive care within the current landscape of health care reform.  

Objectives

  1. Understand the role of community engagement in addressing the social determinants of health
  2. Identify innovative strategies for community engagement and coordinated patient care within Maryland’s current health care landscape
  3. Learn about collaborative approaches to improve health care access and health outcomes in communities in which health disparities persist

Continuing Education / Contact Hours

Applications have been submitted for approval for the following professions:

  • Application to the Maryland Nurses Association an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation has been made for Nurses.

 

Applications have been approved for the following professions:

  • The Office of Workforce Development and Training is an approved sponsor of the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners for 6 Continuing Education Units (Category I) for licensed social workers in Maryland; as a sponsor of  6 Continuing Education Units acceptable to the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists; and 6 Continuing Education Units (Category A) by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists, and the Maryland Association of Prevention Professionals & Advocates upon completion of this training and a completed evaluation. The Office of Workforce Development and Training maintains responsibility for this program.
  • Sponsored by the Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities, Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, a designated provider of continuing education contact hours (CECH) in health education by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. This program is designated for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) and/or Master Certified Health Education Specialists (MCHES) to receive up to 6 total Category I continuing education contact hours. Maximum advanced-level CECH available are 6.
