This webinar will provide an overview of the white paper created as a result of the Safety Center’s National Working Summit on Transportation in Rural America which was held September 2016 in Denver, CO.
Webinar Outcomes
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify the format used at the National Working Summit on transportation in Rural America
- Understand the outcomes from the 10 discussion topics
- List the action items identified in the summit
- Know where to get more resources and information about the Summit
- Understand what your organization can do to “advance the change”
Target Audience
This training is directed towards a very broad safety audience including, but not limited to, law enforcement, planners, engineers, first responders, elected officials, public health, tourism agencies, and safety culture experts. Participants should have some basic familiarity with transportation safety.
Course Presenters
Steve Albert, National Center for Rural Road Safety (Safety Center) Director
- Steve is the Executive Director of the Western Transportation Institute at Montana State University, Director for both the National Center for Rural Road Safety and the West Region Transportation Workforce Center, and is currently serving in his third term of the USDOT JPO ITS Program Advisory Board. He has been addressing transportation challenges for over 30 years in both the large metropolitan centers and our nation’s most rural settings. Steve has been recognized by the USDOT, US Congress, ITS America, and ITE. In 2010, ITE honored him with a lifetime achievement award. He is also recognized as a pioneer in the field of National park and Federal Land transportation.
Jaime Sullivan, National Center for Rural Road Safety (Safety Center) Manager
- Jaime is a WTI Research Engineer with 16 years of experience. Her focus is in applied rural safety and operations research for Departments of Transportation (DOTs) and Public Lands such as the National Park Service. She previously served as the Resource Manager and a technical liaison for the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit in Parks Technical Assistance center (TRIPTAC). She has a bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Master’s in Civil Engineering from Texas A& M University.
