FITNESS Knowledge Dissemination and Stakeholder Engagement Event 2016

Future Intelligent Transmission Network SubStation (FITNESS) is the pilot live multi-vendor digital substation demonstration in GB. The project was successfully awarded under RIIO NIC, Ofgem, in late 2015 and detailed design work began in 2016. Together with our partners GE Grid Solutions, ABB, Synaptec and the University of Manchester we will like to invite to share the objectives of project FITNESS, selection of substation architecture, discussions about change in substation design principles to optical measuring techniques and of course international substation standard IEC61850. The event will be a part of the international IEC WG10 “Power systems management and associated information exchange” meeting and will provide an excellent opportunity to discuss and interact with international experts.

Spaces are limited, so please register early to attend by clicking the link below. For questions please email stakeholderengagement@spenergynetworks.co.uk

FITNESS – Future Intelligent Transmission Network SubStation is the new flagship Network Innovation Competition (NIC) project for SP Energy Networks that will demonstrate sustainable design, deployment and operational control of a multi-vendor digital substation, using the latest protection, control and information technologies provided by project partners ABB, GE and Synaptec.

FITNESS will ensure interoperability and enhance intelligence and visibility in transmission operations and will aim to:

  • Demonstrate that new protection and automation solutions, based on IEC 61850-9-2 process bus standard deployed live for the first time through this project, are applicable for use on the GB transmission network.
  • Demonstrate that innovative solutions will be interoperable with existing conventional system to optimise asset replacement.
  • Accelerate towards a future modernisation approach with reduced primary plant outage and commissioning time
  • Accelerate towards standardised wide area control implementation leading to robust and less bespoke solutions for increasing asset capacity.
