2016 YMCA Community Breakfast for Peace

From November 19-26, 2016, YMCAs across Canada will be inspiring acts of peace by hosting YMCA Peace Week in their communities. YMCA Peace Week is a time to bring people of all ages together in activities focused on exploring peace from a local and global perspective and discovering what we can all do to create more peaceful and empathetic communities.

A highlight of the week is the presentation of YMCA Peace Medals to youth, adults and groups who are taking action for peace within their neighbourhoods and communities.

Keynote Speaker: Manny Scott

Manny Scott is an original Freedom Writer whose story is told in part in the 2007 hit movie, Freedom Writers.

By age 16, Manny's father was incarcerated, he dropped out of school, had lived in 26 places, and his best friend had been brutally murdered. Then he met someone who inspired him to change his life and began writing new, more fulfilling chapters in his life—chapters filled with healing, hope, perseverance, and possibility. He is now happily married, a father of three, a homeschool teacher, a successful entrepreneur, a Ph.D. student, an author, an aviator, and one of the nation’s most sought after speakers.
