Special Weekend with Robin Meyers
Feeling stuck in the ways of the church? Feeling a need to rediscover what it means to be the beloved community of God? Come hear renowned author, UCC pastor and Lyman Beecher Lecturer, Rev. Robin Meyers, as we spend the weekend exploring what it means to be the church in the 21st century. In his book Spiritual Defiance, Meyers says, “There will be no recovery of the Beloved Community until we resist taking ourselves too seriously, until we resist taking the purity of ‘right beliefs’ too seriously, and until we resist taking our marching orders from the powers that be too seriously. Instead we can renew the church but one way- by taking the ‘narrow way’ much more seriously.” University United Methodist Church invites you to come learn with us ways to resist our ego, orthodoxy, and the empire as we do the work of the church. Cost is $25 for the Friday night lecture, Q&A, book signing and the Saturday morning workshop. For more information contact Rev. Heather Green, our Justice Associate, at hlee@uumc.org.
