1000-1100    Legal Issues in Exodontia and Surgical Exodontia,  Dr. Abhi Pal

Abhi Pal brings a wealth of experience in the dento-legal field as an expert witness. He is instructed regularly by all the main indemnity organisations as well as by the GDC and patients' lawyers. He will discuss cases which he has dealt with and will provide valuable advice on how to avoid legal problems in Oral Surgery.

Learning Objectives:

  • To appreciate how routine Oral Surgery cases have led to dento-legal issues and why.
  • To reduce the risk to yourself and your practice/hospital in exodontia or surgical exodontia.

1100-1200    Apical Surgery: Factors for Success from an Endodontist's perspective, Dr Phillip Tomson

Phillip Tomson is an experienced Endodontist and will share his experience in success factors in apicectomy cases. He will discuss his clinical technique and factors to improve the surgical outcome.

  • Understand where failures arise from and which factors will improve surgical outcome in apical surgery.
  • Appreciate the surgical technique associated with high a success rate.

1245-1345    Diagnostic Dilemma's in Oral Radiology, Dr. John Rout

John Rout brings over 40 years of experience in the field of Oral Radiology. He is co-author of 8 books in the field and has presented on numerous national and international events. His presentation will use the Turn-Key voting system involving the audience on their "vote" on diagnostic treatment planning issues in Oral Radiology.

Learning Objectives:

  • To understand treatment planning using best evidence from oral radiology.
  • To appreciate possible controversies in oral radiology.

1345-1445 Sedation in Oral Surgery, Dr Dave Pearson

Dave Pearson lectures nationally on Conscious Sedation. He is a regular invited speaker for SAAD. His lecture will look at the role Sedation in Oral Surgery examining which cases are best treated with the various options within conscious sedation.

Learning Objectives:

  • To gain an overview of sedation techniques available.
  • To know when to use the appropriate technique in a given clinical scenario.

1515-1615    The Non-Surgical management of TMJ Dysfunction, Dr Bernie Speculand

Bernie Speculand has extensive experience in the surgical and non-surgical management of TMJ Dysfunction. He shares his wealth of experience of how to manage his condition non-surgically and what leads to the best patient outcomes.

  •  To understand and implement the non-surgical options involved in TMJ Dysfunction.

1630-1730    The surgical management of TMJ Dysfunction, Dr Bernie Speculand

This session will specifically deal with surgical options which lead to successful outcomes. Bernie will discuss the criteria he uses on when to operate and which conditions show a good prognosis from a surgical prospective.
