Paul D. Ries has 30 years of urban forestry and natural resources experience at the municipal, state, national, international, non-profit, and academic levels. He holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in Natural Resources and is nearing completion of a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. He currently teaches college level urban forestry courses and directs an online graduate certificate program in urban forestry. 

During his career, he has helped create several innovative educational programs including the Community Tree Management Institute, Tree Board University, and the Municipal Forestry Institute. In 2017, he will close out a long career managing a statewide program that provides technical, financial, and educational urban forestry assistance to cities, community groups, and non-profit organizations.

Paul holds a Type 1 national qualification as a public information officer on wildfire incidents and has worked on wildfire assignments in eight different states.  He has been an ISA Certified Arborist since 1988, and currently serves as President-Elect of the International Society of Arboriculture.

Do you ever feel “stuck” at work? Are you looking for ways to expand your capacity to be more effective, or more influential in what you do? This interactive, one-day training session will help natural resource professionals throughout the commercial, municipal and non-profit sectors be more effective or influential and learn how to “expand the possible” at work or even with their work/life balance. 

Participants will explore how to increase impact while working within the constraints of limited time, money, and among uncooperative people. Organized around themes of increasing personal effectiveness, expanding organizational capacity, and leveraging collaborative networks, you will explore ways to advance careers, programs, and partnerships.
