The Federal Small Business Innovation Research and Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) programs award over $2.6 billion in high risk R&D funding annually to qualified small businesses. The process is complex with a steep learning curve, but the impact of receiving this competitive, non-dilutive funding is worth the effort. In this lunch and learn, attendees will learn SBIR/STTR program basics, including program purpose, eligibility, & local sources for proposal development. The class provides enough information for attendees to determine if they would like to seriously pursue a grant or contract proposal. Daniel Eliot is the Manager of Technology Business Development for the University of Delaware Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships’ Small Business Development Center (DSBDC). He leads the DSBDC’s efforts to start and scale technology-based businesses throughout the state and manages four specialty programs for the DSBDC: SBIResource™, Spin In™, DatAssured™ and Digital Compass™. Prior to joining the DSBDC, Daniel worked at Eli Lilly & Co. in their Global Manufacturing & Quality unit, where he planned and implemented executive leadership development and manufacturing science & technology learning & development programs. After leaving Eli Lilly, he worked with a start-up that developed net price calculator solutions for higher education and developed a Bridge to Health Information Professions program at Temple University’s Center for Social Policy and Community Development. He is also currently adjunct faculty at Wilmington University. Daniel holds a B.S. and M.S. from Indiana University, Bloomington & an MBA certificate in Innovation and Technology Commercialization from Temple University’s Fox School of Business and Strategic Management. |
