About the CAST Projects

Mission: To Reduce Suffering and Improve Quality of Life

Vision: A community with less suffering due to the increased awareness of the impact (emotional, physical, spiritual, psychological) of traumatic stress and improved access to trauma informed resources and services.

The CAST Projects has goals that are two fold, we aim to take on build projects to address system level change around trauma awareness and help embed these ideas by engaging organizations and individuals in a healthier way.

What you are Supporting:

CHOP-TALK - Supporting local kids
The CAST Projects recently launched a 6 week pilot program for Warkworth grade 7 youth. CHOP TALK,  in partnership with The Abundance Project focuses on healthy cooking, healthy eating, family meals and emotional life skills.  Based on evidence that emotional awareness and self regulation taught to children can reduce addiction, mental illness and other suffering, we had discussions, facilitated activities and games exploring healthy communication, life skills, stress, anxiety, self esteem and healthy coping with the goal of teaching our group about self regulation, emotional literacy and the value of community connectedness.

The pilot program was a resounding success and positive experience for all involved.  We are looking at running another CHOP TALK series given the feedback from the youth and the overwhelming response to our limited early registration options.

'Powerful Tools for Caregivers'
We are bringing an amazing, new best practice Caregiver support group - 'Powerful Tools for Caregivers' - to our community to run 6 week sessions to better equip caregivers to manage the stress in their lives and explore healthy ways to decompress and sustain themselves in their roles.

The CAST Projects is also developing ways to address emotional preparedness for volunteers across sectors and we are currently launching a campaign to address the gaps in emotional supports for volunteers in many organizations across the province and country.

Your funding dollars will directly support these initiatives
and benefit local families and individuals.
