Target Audience/Prerequisites
This course is intended for the registered nurse, licensed practical/vocational nurses with less than one year TB experience and greater than 25% of job duties dedicated to TB case management including case identification, case management, and treatment of patients with tuberculosis infection or disease. Participants must complete the CDC Self Study Modules 1-9 and present a Certificate of Completion prior to the first session. 


Program Description
The goal of this course is to provide an introductory training experience covering basic elements, knowledge and skills essential for the registered nurse or LVN/LPN responsible for the care of patients with active TB disease and their contacts. The course will provide new nurses with the foundation necessary to attend Heartland’s TB Nurse Case Management course.


Conference Objectives
Upon course completion, participants will be able to assess and manage TB patients by: defining case management as it pertains to tuberculosis, identifying components of a patient assessment, development and implementation of a treatment care plan identifying potential or existing health problems, identifying social information needed for case management, describing the monitoring process for adverse drug events and patient infectiousness using proper nursing interventions, describing the components of an effective TB control program including personal respiratory protection, discussing the impact of the guidelines on contact investigation evaluation and treatment of contacts, describing how to assess continuity of care during and after hospitalization, analyzing documented data to evaluate for patient success, and describing the process for completion of treatment.


Format
The format for this course will be web-based, live lecture presentations with group discussions and case sharing. Recorded online training modules as well as homework assignments (to be completed inbetween the live webinars) will also be included. There will be ample time for questions and answers during the group discussions.


Hardware/Software/Materials
To access and view this training event, you will need a computer with internet access and a phone line (preferably with a speaker or teleconferencing capabilities) or a computer with two-way audio. It is recommended that you check your system for compatibility and connectivity prior to the event; instructions to test your system will be sent with confirmation of participation.

Additional Information
Participants must complete the CDC Self Study Modules 1-9 and present a Certificate of Completion prior to the first session.

This course is an Introduction to Nurse Case Management and does NOT satisfy the requirement for TB Intensive.
