Looking Beyond Behaviors

Friday, October 20, 2017

8:30 am - 3:45 pm

(8:00 am: Check-in & Continental Breakfast)

Beaver Creek Country Club

This program is funded in part by the Willliam B. and Sylvia A. Hunsberger Fund

This full-day training will offer clinicians the opportunity to learn new techniques in the treatment of individuals with autism and other neurodevelopmental challenges. Assessment and treatment modalities will focus on the developmental, individual difference, relationship-based model, (DIRŪ/Floortime Model). Clinicians will learn how to use interventions based on emotional developmental levels which takes into consideration the client’s ability to maintain calm, make emotional connections, communicate back and forth, problem solve, share ideas and understand cause and effect.  Specific tools and techniques will be presented that clinicians will be able to put to use in their own practices.

At the conclusion of the program, participants should be able to:

  • Explain functional emotional developmental levels;
  • Describe various types of environments that are important when working with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD);
  • Learn to use a developmental, individual difference, relationship-based approach when working with individuals with ASD;
  • Evaluate environmental factors and childhood disturbances that may contribute to neurodevelopmental challenges;
  • Help clients develop healthy relationships and attachments to others.
