Arts in the Village Gallery's High School Art Show Call for Art

Arts in the Village Gallery announces a Call for Art for a High School Art Show and Sale at the Gallery. The Gallery will exhibit the selected works from January 16th through February 28th, 2017.

Deadline for submissions has been extended to
midnight
on Sunday January 8th, 2017

Artist Eligibility

  • Only Junior and Senior students currently attending the following 5 Loudoun County, VA High Schools are invited to apply:
    • Tuscarora High School
    • Loudoun County High School
    • Heritage High School
    • Stone Bridge High School
    • Broad Run High School
  • Each artist may submit up to two entries for a non-refundable $5 application fee for each entry.  Acceptance into the show is not guaranteed, artwork will be juried and a subset of the submitted works will be selected for the exhibit.

Eligible Artwork

  • Two dimensional wall art including acrylic painting, collage, colored pencil, charcoal drawing, digital art, oil painting, pastels, pen and ink drawing, photography, printmaking, watercolors, and mixed media are eligible for entry.
  • Only original artwork, created by the applying artist, is eligible. Commercially mass-produced items including kit assembled or hobby items of any kind are not eligible. Reproductions and/or prints are not allowed except for printmaking, photography and digital art.
  • There is no specific subject matter theme for the show, but it is meant to be a "family friendly" show, so no nudity or controversial subject matter will be accepted.
  • Artwork should be dry at the time of delivery to the gallery. No wet artwork will be accepted.
  • The size of artwork is limited to a minimum unframed size of 8x10 inches to a maximum unframed size of 16x20 inches. The framed size of artwork must not exceed 18x22 inches. Artwork that does not conform to this size range may be disqualified.
  • All selected artwork must be delivered ready for hanging with wire or sawtooth hangers.
  • Artwork must be framed with the exception of gallery-wrapped canvas or metal prints with a hanging structure on the back. Framing is at the artist's expense. Since this is a Gallery exhibit, wood or metal frames are preferred over plastic. "Off the shelf" standard sized frames are acceptable. Frames should be clean and undamaged. Artwork that is not ready for hanging or poorly presented may be disqualified from the exhibit, at the discretion of Arts in the Village Gallery.
  • The artist can designate if the artwork will be for sale or not for sale. If for sale, art must not be in a borrowed frame, as it will be sold with the frame.

Jurying and Awards

  • Artwork will be juried by the artist members of Arts in the Village Gallery. Artistic execution, composition and creative vision will all be considered in judging. Jury decisions are final. We expect the show to have between 35 and 52 pieces of art depending on the size of pieces submitted.
  • Arts in the Village Gallery will award honors as follows:
    • First place: $100
    • Second place: $50
    • Third place: $25
  • People's choice award: gift basket

Gallery visitors can cast a vote for their favorite piece of artwork from January 16th through January 27th.  First, second and third place winners will be excluded from winning the people's choice award.
  • Artists with work accepted into the show are expected to attend a show reception and awards ceremony on Saturday January 28th from 4 - 7 pm. (Snow date: Saturday February 4th from 4 - 7 pm).  Monetary awards will be paid to the winning artists by check.
