Human Trafficking in Southwest Ohio: Identification and Response

This presentation will offer an overview of what human trafficking is and how to identify and respond to human trafficking. Human trafficking is often thought of an issue that is more prevalent in underdeveloped countries, but human trafficking occurs everywhere, including in our communities in Southwest Ohio. Presenters will share tips and tools on how to identify sex and labor trafficking and how to have a trauma informed response to victims and survivors of human trafficking. Participants will learn about human trafficking laws, methods of control traffickers use, barriers victims face to leaving a trafficking situation, as well about the intersection of substance abuse and human trafficking.

Objectives:
1. Explain what human trafficking is.
2. Talk about how trafficking occurs in Ohio.
3. Identify the signs of human trafficking.
4. Understand how trafficking occurs, including methods of control traffickers use.
5. Understand victim mindset and needs and barriers victims face when to leaving the trafficking situation.
6. Understand the intersection of substance abuse and human trafficking. 
7. Understand how to safely intervene, the provision of social services, and the multidisciplinary approach needed to effectively advocate for victims.

CEUs: 2.75 Social Work and Counselor CEUs are provided by the Butler County Educational Service Center approved & awarded by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, & MFT Board Approval RSX050901 & RCX051001. 2.75 contact hours for educators.
