About the Northern Virginia Oral Health Forum
Virginia earned a C+ for oral health on the inaugural 2016 Virginia Oral Health Report Card. This grade demonstrates room for improvement in key areas such as prevention, coverage, collaboration, and health status. Furthermore, when we look closely at the Report Card indicators, significant disparities emerge by race, socioeconomic status, and geographic area. Now that we know where the state stands on key measures of oral health, where do we go from here? How can we act locally to improve oral health in our regions and across the entire commonwealth?

To improve oral health for all Virginians, we need tailored strategies which take into account our diversity in terms of demographics, infrastructure, policies, and geography. And everyone needs to be at the table to develop those strategies. As such, the Virginia Oral Health Coalition (VaOHC) is facilitating regional convenings to examine regional oral health data, identify areas to target for improvement, and collaborate on potential solutions. The desired outcome for this event is to establish a regional workgroup which will continue to address our collectively identified oral health priorities, with backbone support from the Virginia Oral Health Coalition.
