Superintendents' Early Childhood Plan
Professional Development Series:
It's More Than Words: Young Children's Language, Thinking and Learning
A key strategy in supporting young children as active thinkers and learners is to let them talk. Participants will explore ways to promote learning experiences, birth through Grade 3, through which rich oral language development occurs and serves to promote active learning. This session includes strategies for nurturing young children's bilingualism in the center, school, and home. Selected portions of this institute will be presented in Spanish as well as English.
This session is the second of four institutes in the 2016-17 "Professional Development for All" series. The institutes are open to teachers, child care providers, administrators, and other professionals who serve young children in the metro area. The series is funded by the Learning Community of Douglas and Sarpy Counties as part of the Superintendents' Early Childhood Plan in partnership with the Buffett Early Childhood Institute. The plan's goal is to reduce or eliminate income- and race-based achievement gaps in the Omaha area.
