Creative Play Therapy Interventions for Bereavement and Divorce in MD

Description

When children enter therapy because they have experienced a significant loss, they are at a very vulnerable time in their lives. They are often anxious about the therapeutic process and reluctant to talk directly about painful feelings. Directive play therapy interventions can engage children and help them to express their thoughts and feelings. This workshop will present a brief theoretical overview followed by a variety of play therapy interventions to treat children and teens coping with bereavement and divorce. A range of innovative play therapy interventions will be outlined, including therapeutic games, art, and stories.

Objectives:

  • Define grief, traumatic grief, and disenfranchised grief as sometimes seem in play therapy themes
  • Describe the continuum of parent-child relationships after separation and divorce
  • Apply at least 5 new Directive play therapy interventions for children and families coping with bereavement and divorce
