Come prepared for an information rich and interactive session! Additionally, you will learn how to become a Registered Play Therapist through the Association for Play Therapy in California.

    Objectives:

    1. Differentiate between Non-Directive and Directive Play Therapy.

AFTERNOON SESSION:  Workshop Description (Effective Use of Puppets in Play Therapy):

The use of puppets in play therapy can create an alternative form of communication for children and families. Rich in symbolism and verbal metaphors, puppets are an engaging tool. Using puppets in therapy has many benefits for children and adolescents struggling with social skills, low self-esteem, family separation, poor impulse control and anxiety and can be used in a variety of settings such as hospitals, outpatient & inpatient agencies, schools, private practice and home visits too. Puppets offer a way to create a visualization of the thinking process which helps the play therapist gain new insights about their clients. Thus using puppets, is another powerful medium to add to your tool-belt of play therapy techniques! Participants will have an opportunity to practice play therapy puppetry skills while enjoying the creative process of making their own puppets.

    Objectives:

    1. Describe the process of facilitating puppet use in play therapy sessions with individuals, groups and families

    2. Identify the theoretical underpinnings of play therapy tenants including attachment

    3. Construct assessment questions for processing future sessions with clients

    4. Identify benefits, and challenges of using puppets
