Play Therapy with Children on the Autism Spectrum 

Description:

Mental health and educational professionals who work with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and/or have training in Play Therapy can significantly benefit from this workshop.  The presenter will give an overview of Autism Spectrum Disorders and various theoretical approaches to play therapy for use with this population, with an emphasis on humanistic approaches to Play Therapy.  The view of Autism Spectrum Disorders as a separate culture will be highlighted, and participants will learn effective techniques for engaging client caregivers. 

 

Objectives:

• Describe Autism Spectrum Disorders and the use of play therapy with this population
• Describe how sensory issues may create challenges in the therapeutic playroom
• Demonstrate play therapy skills for counseling children in the autism spectrum

 

Presenter:  Jodi Mullen, PhD., LMHC, RPT-S

Certified Professor and Supervisor of Child Psychotherapy and Play Therapy.  Director of Integrative Counseling Services, PLLC, in central New York, where she conducts psychotherapy and supervises staff. Associate Professor at State University of NY at Oswego, where she teaches and develops comprehensive syllabi and coordinates the play therapy certificate and mental health counseling programs.  Author with J. M. Rickli of various play therapy texts, including “How Play Therapists can Engage Parents & Professionals” (Rev. ed.), 2011.

Cancellation Policy: Written cancellation must be received in our office at least ten working days prior to the training. A $25.00 processing fee will be deducted from your refund. Otherwise, a voucher will be given. If you do not notify us a minimum of ten business days prior to the training of your intent to cancel, you will not receive a refund or credit.
