The Impact of Trauma on Childhood Mental Health

This presentation will help clarify the social/emotional impact of trauma as it relates to childhood mental health disorders.  Participants will learn interventions that will help children, as well as ways to engage parents.  Discussion of case examples will help participants review symptoms of trauma-related mental health disorders and skills to help families. In this sessions participants will:

  • Identify social/emotional impact of trauma as a child develops
  • Identify symptoms of different mental health disorders that co-exist when a child experiences trauma
  • Discuss case examples and how to assess for differential diagnosis of mental health issues and trauma
  • Identify interventions for behavioral, emotional, and relational issues in children who have experienced trauma
  • Identify ways to engage parents in the treatment process
  • Discuss potential interventions using case examples/role plays

CEUs: 2.75 Social Work and Counselor CEUs are provided by the Butler County Educational Service Center approved & awarded by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, & MFT Board Approval RSX050901 & RCX051001. 2.75 contact hours for educators.
