Glass Mosaics

with

     Anita Damron

Mosaics are one of the original art forms and pieces can be made to last for centuries. In this Design & Wine workshop, participants will design and create a fine art mosaic piece using an extensive supply of precut mosaic glass. All skill levels are welcome.

Anita Damron's Teaching Philosophy:

I believe in fostering a fun and enriching environment of mutual respect that promotes self-expression and active learning, allowing students to stretch and grow in their skill at their own pace.

Creating artwork is a deeply personal process, as it is intellectual, emotional and intuitive to differing degrees.  Each student shall be treated as an individual, as both teacher and student benefit from interactions in the classroom.

A strong foundation will consist of the learning the basics of several methods and handling of various tools and materials.  Planning, design, and fabrication of each unique creation will be discussed as needed.

Whether working toward increasing skill, relaying a message, or capturing a moment of personal significance, my wish is that students experience an increased feeling of empowerment and independence as their process develops along their artistic journey.

Biography

Born in Pennsylvania, Anita Bucsay Damron works in several mediums, most notably glass, oil and acrylic.  Her mosaics and paintings have won numerous awards and are collected nationally.

Anita takes an expressionistic approach to color and texture with her work, and her art is influenced by her studies of the masters as well as contemporary artists, her Hungarian heritage, her early artistic upbringing, and her faith.  She engages in self-study and has studied under other teachers such as Kurt Schwarz, Pam Coulter Blehert, Laurel Skye, Kim Wozniak, Valerie Theberge, Trisha Adams, Robert Burridge, Bonnie Fitzgerald, Laura Rendlen, Christine Lashley, Hank Kuhlman, Paula Wachsstock, Mike Cantwell and Ariel Shoemaker and Gene Sterud with Matteo Randi.

Anita teaches mosaic art, stained glass and fused glass at many locations including The Art League School (Torpedo Factory) in Alexandria, The Workhouse Art Center in Lorton, VA, and The Reston Community Center.  She is currently a member of The Greater Reston Art Center (GRACE), The Society of American Mosaic Artists (SAMA), The Art League Gallery (Torpedo Factory) and has served on the board of the League of Reston Artists (LRA) (currently a member).

Do I need any experience to participate in Design and Wine classes?

Absolutely not! We are looking for savvy women and men who want to share ideas and learn new things.

Do you require registering for Design and Wine and how do I sign up?

The only way to secure a spot in one of our Design and Wine classes is to pre-register on our website.  This allows us to make sure the class does not overfill and that everyone has materials and supplies!  You can sign up by viewing the events you want to attend.

What is your cancellation policy?

These classes are going to be so much fun; we have a no cancellation policy/no refund policy.  However, your reservations are transferable (space permitting), if we receive your request at least one week before the event, and reservations may be transferred only once. In the event, we do not have enough registrations to hold any class, your fee will be refunded or can be transferred to an upcoming class (space permitting).  We will reschedule any missed classes due to weather as quickly as possible.

Do you have an age limit?

Our age limit to participate in Wine and Design is 21 years old.  Please keep in mind that the law requires anyone who consumes alcoholic beverages to be 21 years of age or over.

What are the prices?

Design and Wine classes are $35 per person.  The price includes all supplies, wine and light snacks.

What do I need to bring?

You need to bring yourself, friends and snacks if you wish! Dress comfortably, but wear something you wouldn’t mind getting sacrificed in the name of art and fun!

At what time should I arrive for class?

Classes will begin at the time scheduled – 7:00 p.m. - so come 15 minutes earlier to grab your seat and get comfortable!
