Treating Addictions with the Channel Systems of Chinese Medicine

In this 2-day seminar, dive deep into the nature and pathology of the channels of acupuncture like never before, and learn the intimate details of how the Channels of Acupuncture treat Addictions, including psycho-emotional aspects of each system, and its appplication in the treatment of addictions (both substance addiction and addictive behaviours).

 

Day 1: An Overview of the Channel System

This course provides an overview of the channel system with a focus on the 8 Extraordinary Vessels.  We will explore the pathways of each of the 8 extras and how those pathways inform the functions and clinical applications for each vessel.  We will learn about the richness and profound impact of acupuncture beyond the primary meridians. NOTE: This Day 1 is not the same as 'Eight Extras 101' as offered in the past. 

• Review of the nature and functions of the Sinew channels, Luo-collaterals, Divergent meridians and the 8 Extraordinary vessels. 
• Recognize pathology associated with each system.
• Understand the psycho-emotional aspects of each system.
• Learn the essentials needed to create a basic treatment for each system.

Day 2: Addiction and the Channels of Chinese Medicine

Dive deep into the applications of the channels of Acupuncture and its application to addictions.

• Become familiar with the biomedical definitions of addiction and the typical standards of care.
• Deepen your understanding of the Chinese medical theories on addiction.
• Learn to recognize how each of the channel systems is engaged in the process of addiction.
• Learn how to apply the 8 Extraordinary vessel system to address the deeper psycho-emotional aspects of addiction.

CEU's are  16 hours. Course qualifies for CTMCA and CNPBC Category 'C' CEU's, and are California Acupuncture Board Category 1 approved (15 CEUs), CAB Provider number 1234. NCCAOM approved (AOM-BIO) 15 CEUs, NCCAOM PDA provider number 168958.

Dr. Farrell has been involved in helping others to restore balance in their lives for 24 years.  In 1996, she graduated from Emperor’s College with a Master’s Degree in Chinese Medicine. She has been in private practice since 1997. She was a member of the faculty at Emperor’s College for 13 years. In addition to her faculty duties at Emperor’s, Yvonne was also a clinical supervisor.  In 2007 Yvonne received her Doctoral Degree (DAOM) from Emperor’s College. In 2009-2010 Yvonne was the Director of a team that was responsible for getting Yo San University’s first DAOM program up and running. Specializing in the use of the Secondary Vessels in treatment, Yvonne has been teaching channel theory to students for many years. A student Jeffrey Yuen, she has developed proficiency with the Eight Secondary Vessels system and has found they are very effective in the treatment of psycho-emotional and psycho-spiritual disorders.  In addition to teaching in the master’s programs of two schools, Dr. Farrell has been teaching CEU courses for several years. Her courses are lively, informative and clinically relevant. Although she has a general practice, her specialties include the treatment of psycho-emotional disorders or stress induced illness.  She is very passionate about the medicine and enjoys sharing this through her teaching. Dr. Farrell is the author of the book Psycho-Emotional Pain and the Eight Extraordinary Vessels available on Amazon.

WITHDRAWAL POLICY: For course withdrawals submitted in writing or in person 30 days or more before the start of the course, registrants will receive a full tuition refund less a $50 non-refundable registration fee. For course withdrawals submitted in writing or in person more than 14 days but less than 30 days before the start of the course, registrants will receive a 50% tuition refund. Without exception, no refunds will be given for course withdrawals less than 14 days before the start of the course, and after the course begins.
