Traci McNair RDH, BS, MA

Speaker Biography: 

Traci McNair, RDH, BS, MA, was the 2015-2016 President of the Howard County Dental Hygiene Association. Traci received her degree in dental hygiene in 1984 from Midwestern State University, obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health Administration from University of Maryland in 2002. After receiving her degree in Public Health, Traci was the Oral Health Director for Howard County from 2004 until the dental clinic closed. Traci graduated with a Masters of Arts degree in Health and Wellness in 2010 from Liberty University. She has 31 years of experience in dental hygiene with a special fondness in treating patients with periodontal disease. She believes in a holistic way of treating patients. Her motto is the mouth is the mirror to the whole body.
Traci is currently practicing 
dental hygiene in a general practice located in Columbia, Maryland. She is particularly concerned in helping patients access dental care and bridging the gap between medical and dental providers.

About the Course:

In 1913, Alford Fones, created the term dental hygienist. He believed the dental hygienist played an
important role in the clinical practice of dental hygiene and educating the public on disease prevention.
Practicing dental hygiene in an office setting continues to be the primary place of employment for numerous hygienists, but your degree in dental hygiene can open many doors and opportunities for professional growth.
This course will explore alternative careers in the dental hygiene field:

Course Goals:
  • Understand the different workforce options for registered dental hygienists
  • Define the educational standards in place for each alternative career
  • Identify and define key terms and concepts related to oral health care in alternative settings
  • Describe different models for alternative practice
  • Discuss legislative barriers to alternate practices
  • Discuss the different duties for dental hygienists in alternative practice setting
