PeaceJam Connecticut Mentor Training 2017

Youth Leadership Conference Mentor Application

Thank you for your interest in being a PeaceJam MENTOR at the Youth Leadership Conference on Saturday, February 25 and Sunday, Februart 26, 2017 at Western Connecticut State University! You'll get to spend the day developing your own leadership and investing in the next generation of peacebuilders. Here's what you need to know:

What is a PeaceJam Mentor?
A PeaceJam Mentor is a person who facilitates small groups of middle and high school youth participants at the annual PeaceJam Youth Conference and/or the PeaceJam Slam. Mentors create the space and energy of the event to ensure that all participants feel welcomed and safe to engage in the challenge topics of social justice and world peace. We welcome all Mentors - shy, outgoing, experienced leaders, first-time mentors, activists, educators, you name it! You will be paired with another Mentor and we will make sure you're well trained before the event. You must be a near-peer, which means college-aged (don't have to actually be in college but must be between the ages of 18 and 25).

2016 PeaceJam Slam Mentor Commitment:

  • Attend the 2017 Conference on Saturday, February 25 and Sunday, February 26 at Western Connecticut State University, Midtown Campus.
  • Arrive at 7:00 AM at Warner Hall and stay until 6:00 PM
  • Attend the mandatory Mentor Training on Satuday, January 28 from 10 AM to 4 PM. Location: Kathwari Honors House. While we expect that everyone will make every effort to attend, we also recognize that valid, extenuating circumstances may prevent you from attending. If that’s the case, please contact Bianca Paolello at paolellob@wcsu.edu to explain your circumstances. Each case will be considered on its own merits.
  • Attend mandatory Mentor Logistics session on Friday, Februay 24 from 10:30AM to 5:30 PM. Location: Kathwari Honors House
  • Unfortunately, if you are unable to attend both trainings, you will not be able to mentor at the conference. Please plan accordingly.

Other Requirements

You must pass a background check that we will be running.  The results of the background check will be reviewed by PeaceJam and held in confidence.  Offenses that are likely to result in disqualification are felonies or misdemeanors classified as an offense against a person or family, an offense against a minor, public indecency, or a violation involving a state or federally controlled substance. WCSU students must also be in good judicial standing with WCSU.  If you have any concerns feel free to reach out to us. All situations are handled on a case by case basis.

DEADLINE TO APPLY IS January 20th. Tell all your friends!
