Head Start Training from The Private Client Law Group

Training Solutions for Nonprofits and Grant-Funded Entities

Overview

For years, health, safety, transportation, and facilities-related issues have been areas of focus for the Office of Head Start and leading causes of findings and deficiencies for Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Although the new Head Start Program Performance Standards, which recently took effect, make numerous changes to the health and safety rules, this scrutiny of health and safety practices is not expected to decrease. In fact, compliance with the new health safety, facilities, and transportation requirements, remains vital to the continued success of all Head Start and Early Head Start programs. This unique two-day institute in New Orleans will provide you and your Head Start or Early Head Start program with the information needed to meet the new health and safety standards and avoid problems.

Third Annual Head Start Health & Safety Institute

March 9 - 10, 2017

Exclusive Two-Day Event

Head Start and Early Head Start Training in New Orleans

Health and safety have been the most important compliance areas for Head Start and Early Head Start agencies in recent years, and that will not change with the implementation of the new Head Start Program Performance Standards.  The new Performance Standards continue the Office of Head Start's focus on all areas of health and safety (including health services, environmental health and safety, child supervision and discipline, facilities, and transportation).  Consequently, the curriculum for the Third Annual Head Start Health & Safety Institute has been completely updated and revised for 2017 to incorporate the rules in the revised Performance Standards to help your program stay in compliance with these new health, safety, transportation, and facilities-related requirements.  By attending the Third Annual Head Start Health and Safety Institute in New Orleans on March 9 and 10, 2017, you will not only enhance your understanding of the new Performance Standards but also get up-to-date on related requirements and best practices to ensure that your Head Start or Early Head Start program is playing it safe when it comes to health and safety standards.

During the two full days of this special Institute, you will explore important Head Start and Early Head Start health, safety, transportation, and facilities topics in detail, including:

  • Health and safety rules under the new Head Start Program Performance Standards;
  • Critical but common environmental health and safety red flags and how to avoid them;
  • Health services requirements (including health status, nutrition, and mental health);
  • Role of parents and parental consent requirements;
  • Application of health and safety requirements to different program options (including center-based, home-based, and family child care);
  • Integrating Caring for Our Children Basic and related best practices;
  • Implementing active supervision;
  • Facilities rules and requirements under the new Head Start Program Performance Standards as well as facilities issues and what to do in response;
  • Requirements and issues related to child supervision and appropriate discipline;
  • New background check requirements as well as the intersection between health and safety and human resources;
  • Environmental health and safety issues for non-center-based program options;
  • Transportation standards under the new Head Start Program Performance Standards;
  • Application of risk management principles in designing health and safety practices;
  • Implementing a successful ongoing monitoring system; and,
  • Addressing health and safety issues and mitigating consequences of health and safety problems.

The Third Annual Head Start Health & Safety Institute will discuss these topics and other critical information about health and safety requirements and best practices to prepare you to operate a high-quality Head Start or Early Head Start program.  You will also have multiple opportunities to ask and get answers to your individual questions about Head Start and Early Head Start health, safety, transportation, and facilities throughout both days of the Institute.
