Play Therapy as a Tool for Assessment & Diagnosis with Children 

Description:

This workshop will provide a brief overview of Directive and Non-Directive play therapy and how they can be utilized in the assessment and diagnostic process. Both informal and formal approaches will be explored.  Additionally how these techniques can be utilized in diverse clinical settings will be demonstrated.  The development of treatment plan goals and how to measure the progress utilizing the play-based techniques will also be discussed.  Ample time will be provided to practice a variety of techniques for immediate implementation.  Participants must have prior training in play therapy in order to fully benefit from this training.

Objectives:

  • Discuss briefly the basic tenets of Directive and Non-Directive play therapy
  • Describe how play therapy can be used as a tool for assessment with children
  • List the advantages and disadvantages of using the play therapy process for assessment and diagnosis
  • Demonstrate the use of play therapy techniques as a means to measure treatment goal progress
  • Describe how play therapy can be used as a tool for diagnosis with children
  • Demonstrate how techniques presented can be used in diverse clinical settings

Kristie Doheny is the Executive Director and Founder of the Holistic Health Center For Personal Growth & Healing in Middle Village, NY. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Social Worker, and Certified Holistic Health Practitioner specializing in individual, couples and family therapy. With over 10 years experience with working with children, adolescents,adults and families from diverse backgrounds, and as a graduate of Saybrook University specializing in Clinical Psychology , she is currently serving as private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients.

  • LATE REGISTRSTION( October 20, 2017 and after): $175.00

Cancellation Policy: Written cancellation must be received in our office at least ten working days prior to the training. A $25.00 processing fee will be deducted from your refund. Otherwise, a voucher will be given. If you do not notify us a minimum of ten business days prior to the training of your intent to cancel, you will not receive a refund or credit.
