Our presenter is Mr. Anthony Ruiz, District Director of the San Antonio District of the SBA.
On March 9, 2015 Anthony Ruiz became the San Antonio District Office (SADO) Director. He originally started his career with SBA in 2011 as the Assistant District Director for the 8(a) Business Development Program in the Washington, DC Metro Area District Office. There he implemented a program to market the contracting agencies, resulting in increasing 8(a) contract awards from $3.9 Billion to over $6.4 Billion in FY 2014 from FY 2013 for the 8(a) 1,100 8(a) firms in his Metro DC Region.
In SADO’s 55-county service area, for FY 2016, SBA and the SADO Team awarded over $3.1 Billion in Small Business Contracts, including over $1.5 Billion in 8(a) Contracts, and over $505 Million in small business loans under Mr. Ruiz’s leadership.
Before joining SBA, Mr. Ruiz’s private sector professional experience includes 22 years as a business owner, 5 years as a commercial bank lender, and 5 years as an international banker financing global trade for manufacturing firms.
Anthony’s education includes an undergraduate degree in International Relations (Cal-State, L.A.), an MBA double major in International Finance & International Marketing (Univ. of Southern California), and a Law Degree (Univ. of Arizona).
He is a Vietnam Veteran (SSG, Artillery), distinguished in combat with a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
