  Young Adult Leadership Training Program

PROGRAM DETAILS:
The Young Adult Leadership Training Program will bring mindfulness/awareness and leadership/mentoring practices to youth and young adults, aged 18-30.

By bringing mindfulness meditation, leadership training & mentoring, nature awareness skills and food sovereignty, this training will support you to develop resilience and inner supports by building skills and practices that are needed in order to meet the challenges we are all are currently facing in the world. It will give you skills to calm your minds and to explore your relationships with mind and body, as well as the heart by learning how to skillfully handle emotions and difficult thoughts. Through daily practices you learn to direct and sustain attention, cultivate compassion, and ways to listen deeply and communicate authentically to one another. You will explore nature-awareness practices both in living with nature, but also by encountering the natural world on its terms, by learning the skills of observation, identification, and by overcoming your fears and discomfort. You will learn about our shared relationship with food and the role of food sovereignty as well as spending time in the vegetable garden, weeding, planting, building soil, harvesting food, etc, and participating in the creative process of meal preparation. An important element of food sovereignty is giving our youth resources in meeting the challenges of climate change and addressing our relationship with globalization of food, by exploring where does our food comes from? An integral element of the program is building community, fostering mentorship, especially intergenerationally, and embracing cross-cultural ceremonies and the expressive arts.

Sarana Springs is nestled near to the dramatic vistas of the Niagara Escarpment and we are close to many Water Falls, caves and great natural beauty.  Our 171 acre retreat is at the source of the BigHead River which flows into into Georgian Bay at Meaford. We are 2.5 hours north of Toronto, 20 minutes SE of Owen Sound and the small village of Chatsworth is north of us and Holland Centre is south.
Facilities & Accomodations:  We live simply and close to the land.  Classes will be in held in our beautiful barn-temple, as well as in the outdoors;  there is an 8x12 kitchen shed with butane stoves to cook on;  we will provide a covered outdoor eating area with harvest tables;  we will be sleeping in tents;  water stations and shower tents will be provided for washing, with swimming in a spring fed pond as an alternative, and 2 outdoor washrooms.

Food:  At Sarana Springs, food is one of our primary practices.  We believe that by building our own soil, growing and harvesting organic vegetables, we are supporting the health and well-being of our own bodies and also, the earth.  We aim to help each student develop a healthy relationship with food by working in the gardens, teach them what a balanced nutrition is comprised of, what its benefits are, and how to choose, prepare and enjoy healthy food.  Together we will enjoy wonderfully prepared raw, vegan, vegetarian meals and some meat options, that when possible are organic and locally harvested.  As part of the program you will be participating and preparing some of the meals.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE:  Full details will be included in your program package which will be mailed upon registration completion.

Fee: $950
