The Family Business Legacy Speaker Series

Aged to Perfection: Di Bruno Bros. Share their Blueprint to their House of Cheese Legacy

There’s nothing cheesy about having pride in carrying on your family’s legacy. Unless, of course, you’re the Di Bruno Bros. whose family legacy is built on the business of cheese!

Join us to hear Bill and Emilio Mignucci, 3rd generation owners of Di Bruno Bros., as they share how they have grown the business to become one of the most recognized specialty food retailers in the country, while still preserving the legacy built by Danny and Joe Di Bruno over 75 years ago.

 Di Bruno Bros., a pioneering specialty food retailer and importer, began with a modest shop in the now-iconic South Philadelphia Italian Market in 1939. Today, employing more than 350 proud team members , they have evolved into a community-driven enterprise with five retail locations, catering, import and e-commerce divisions. In this lively discussion with Q&A, you will learn: 

  • How Danny & Joe Di Bruno pioneered the specialty food industry in the 1930s
  • How to innovate successfully and always stay one step ahead of the competition
  • How the economic priorities and goals of the City of Philadelphia helped drive the successful expansion of their business
  • How to maintain a family business culture across multiple locations

 

PLUS: Tenaya Darlington (a.k.a. Madame Fromage), author of  "Di Bruno Bros. House Of Cheese: A Guide To Wedges, Recipes & Pairings” and Associate Professor at Saint Joseph’s University, will facilitate the panel discussion. As co-author of two cookbooks with her brother André Darlington, Tenaya will share insight into creative collaboration between siblings.
