Safe Chemistry Lab Workshop 

Please join us for this fun and valuable workshop with Dave Waddell from Waddell Environmental in Seattle, Washington.  Dave worked for many years with King County, Washington developing eduational materials for science and art teachers.  He has a way of taking a serious subject and making it interesting and engaging.

Dave will review the culture of laboratory safety, chemical hazard evaulation, proper chemical management, identifying and flxing unsafe situations, and getting started on an Integrated Chemical Management and Safety Plan.  This will include classroom exercises and a visit to the college chemistry lab.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will leave the training with enhanced skills and knowledge in:

  • Identifying hazardous characterics of chemicals in their chemical stockroom
  • Inspecting their lab for environmental, health, and chemical hygiene problems
  • Improving chemical storage and labeling practices
  • Understanding how to collect, process, and dispose of hazardous waste
  • Proper testing of eye washes, safety, showers, and fume hoods
  • Understanding basic laboratory safety rules and procedures and emergency response
  • Knowing and understanding the key components of a Chemical Management & Safety Plan 

Workshop Attendance Certificate will be provided for continuing Education Units (CEUs) for attendance, if applicable.
