INTRODUCING - The Children's Law Center LLLC Institute for Best Interest Legal Advocacy Training Series.

These multidisciplinary trainings by nationally and internationally renowned experts are designed to train attorneys, Custody Evaluators and mental health professionals to effectively address and overcome high-conflict in child custody cases and improve outcomes for clients and their children.

This training has been approved for the following credits:

Training by Matthew J. Sullivan, Ph.D
  • Learn how to elicit and interpret the voice of the child in high conflict cases.
  • Recognize the dynamics and challenges of high conflict families with parent-child contact problems, including alienation and realistic estrangement.
  • Understand how a traditional litigation approach to these cases often lead to lasting and irreconcilable damage to parent child relationships.
  • Learn legal and therapeutic processes so that attorneys, CEs/mental health professionals, court-appointed neutrals and Judges can work cooperatively to achieve lasting and sustainable child centered solutions to family conflicts.
  • Gain specialized training and specific instructions for drafting legal stipulations, court orders, CE/GAL/FF appointment orders and parent agreements. Sample forms will be provided.

 

Matthew J. Sullivan, Ph.D

Dr. Sullivan served as co-chair of the AFCC task force which developed guidelines for Court-Involved Therapists, and served on a AFCC Task which developed the first practice guidelines for Parenting Coordination. He has worked with American Psychological and American Bar on legal and psychological interventions with children and families.

He currently works in the Family Courts in California, specializing in forensics and clinical work and focuses on families in high-conflict shared custody situations. Dr. Sullivan serves in a variety of court-related roles, including mediator, co-parent counselor, Parenting Coordinator, and testifying expert and consultant. He has written numerous articles and book chapters, presented and done trainings at national and international venues on topics such as high-conflict divorce, Parenting Coordination, child alienation, mental health consultation in family law cases, Court-involved therapy and Wealth effects on children in child support cases.  

Dr. Sullivan received the 2012 Joseph Drown award for outstanding service to children by the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, California chapter.
