Presenters:

Shelley Loethen, GPC, is the owner of Encore Nonprofit Solutions. With more than 20 years of experience in the for-profit and nonprofit sectors, she has unique insight into the needs of nonprofit organizations.  As the general manager of a nonprofit organization, Shelley implemented a strategic grant-seeking process that increased grant funding more than ten times prior levels, diversifying the organization’s revenue streams and significantly increasing overall revenue. She also developed a corporate sponsorship program that increased these unrestricted revenues by 260% during her tenure. Her efforts dramatically diversified the organization’s funding portfolio and helped the agency create a strong reputation in the local philanthropic community.  Since 2009, Shelley and the Encore Nonprofit Solutions team have secured nearly $40 million in grants. Her experience spans many nonprofit sectors and includes programs for health care, mental health, trauma, education, and workforce development. Federal, state, county, and local government entities as well as community, corporate, and private foundations have funded proposals submitted by Shelley and her team.  In addition to her grant writing success, Shelley is a skilled business professional. She is dedicated to strategic nonprofit operations, planning, and governance and the impact each has on providing effective community services, attracting funding, and achieving sustainability. She has assembled a team of top-notch nonprofit professionals who are committed to helping nonprofits succeed.  Shelley is a Certified Grant Professional, receiving her GPC in 2012. The GPC credential is conferred only after passing the GPC exam—a rigorous testing process developed under strict psychometric protocols. The GPC is your assurance that the holder has demonstrated knowledge and experience in the grant profession. This credential must be renewed every three years, ensuring continued professional development of the holder.  Shelley is a member of the Grant Professionals Association (GPA), and the Heart of the America Chapter where she has been active as a board member and treasurer. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Missouri—Columbia.

Kelly Mahon has been a reference librarian with the Kansas City Public Library since 1997 and is currently the Foundation Center’s Funding Information Network Supervisor.  He conducts grant research workshops throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area.
