Mending, Mindfulness, Meaning and Mystery: Putting Your Oxygen Mask on First - NEFLIN (06/15/17)

Replenish. Recharge. Renew.

Sometimes in work and in life we need to heed the airplane instructions - put on your oxygen mask first- because we can only give our all when we replenish our own reserves.

Library work involves compassionate care-taking and service-providing.  Explore how the very qualities that make us great as service professionals also can leave us vulnerable to feelings of being overwhelmed and overloaded, which can lead to thinking we can’t do what we need to do, or that we’re not meant to do it.

Learn evidence-based information, identify symptoms, and practice strategies to avoid burn out, compassion fatigue and emotional labor, their accompanying stress levels, the effects on your feelings of work-life balance and confidence in your capacity to serve the public - all while trying to remain upbeat and pleasant.

Recharge your spirit and build your resiliency as you experience and practice mindfulness and other mind-body techniques that relieve stress, sharpen focus, help you make better decisions, and become more productive, reaping a greater sense of achievement and fulfillment.

Enjoy inspiring stories and humorous anecdotes woven in to strategies that can mend the spirit. Practices are offered to create meaning and embrace life’s mysteries and synchronicities that, if open to them, fill the soul with wonder.
