February 2017 Lunch Meeting

Technological advancements in geogrids and geotechnical applications.

Presentation by: Garrett Fountain & Jordan Rabin – Tensar Co.

For over thirty years, geogrids have provided benefits to numerous geotechnical applications including MSE walls, embankments and weak subgrade conditions. However, significant advancements in the understanding of how geogrids work and the mechanics behind improved performance of geogrid reinforced structures, such as flexible and rigid pavements and non-critical foundations, have made geogrid technology more useful than ever.

This presentation will provide insight into recent technological advancements in geogrids form and function, validate the in-ground performance benefits of geogrids in runways/taxiways, flexible and rigid pavements, and introduce new applications for geogrids including working platforms and the mitigation of differential settlement under foundations.

Presenters:

Garrett Fountain, P.E., G.E. – Area Engineer

Jordan Rabin – Central CA Regional Manager, Roadways

Mr. Fountain is a 1999 Civil Engineering graduate from the University of Arizona with an emphasis in geotechnical engineering.  His professional engineering licenses include the states of Arizona, Nevada, California, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii and Wyoming.  Additionally, Garrett is licensed as a Geotechnical Engineering in the states of California and Washington.  He has over 20 years of geotechnical engineering and construction experience.  As Tensar’s West Area Engineer, Garrett provides engineering support for Tensar’s regional managers and key clients in the application of geosynthetics and value engineering.  Additionally, Garrett assists in numerous research and testing programs on various transportation related projects and is helping in the development the Tensar RAFT foundation system.  Garrett is based out of San Diego, California.
