Miracle Stories of the Bible | November 13-15

In this study, we examine various ways scholars have interpreted ancient texts which seem miraculous. Certainly some of them must remain as mysteries. For us, living in a different time and very different place from the origin of the stories, knowledge of the settings of the stories can help in their interpretation. In all these stories we will discuss the human need, the presence of God, and a sense of wonder.

Topics will include:

  • Introduction to Miracles in the Early Old Testament
  • Later Old Testament Miracle Narratives
  • Early Gospel Miracles in Galilee
  • Later Gospel Miracles on the Journey to Jerusalem
  • Miracle Narratives in the Book of Acts and the Epistles

Recent Discoveries Around Bethlehem | November 15-17

"O Little Town of Bethlehem"...  New archaeological discoveries in and around this   ancient 'suburb' of Jerusalem teach us a lot about the distant world of Naomi, Ruth, Boaz, and Samuel. They help us to see more clearly the stark differences between King Herod and King Jesus, and lead us into a deeper understanding of the shepherd king, whose 'desert spirituality' was nurtured in the nearby Judean wilderness.

Topics will include:

  • Bethlehem in the Days of Naomi, Ruth, Boaz and the Prophet Samuel
  • King Herod and King Jesus
  • The Shepherd King
  • The Zealot Battle for Jerusalem
  • The "Desert Spirituality" of the Wilderness of Judea
