Drone Training

OverView

Are you thinking about getting a drone to support municipal operations; for building inspections, doing an emergency loss assessment, determining the health of trees, searching for a lost child, inspecting bridges, or evaluating the environment during a building fire or flood? These are just a few areas to consider when using this new technology. If you have ever wanted to understand how to use this technology, then this class is for you!

Public entities, performing inherently government functions, can self-certify their pilots and their aircraft. But how do you self-certify? And how do you know if the certification process will satisfy the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)? Who can fly the drone? What certification do they need? And most importantly how do municipalities protect themselves by making sure your personnel are trained properly?

A lot of municipalities are wrestling with these very questions. Some municipalities are flying drones, and don't know that they are doing it illegally. Though public entities can self-certify, the pilots still need to understand the basics of the National Airspace (NAS), how to operate in the same air space as manned aviators, what to do in case of an emergency, and how to talk to pilots and Air Traffic Control (ATC).

This two day course will prepare personnel to take their Part 107 test, which can be used to self-certify, or for use for non-inherently government functions. All pilots have to understand the rules and regulations of the NAS. This class provides the pilot training needed for municipalities to start creating a drone program. All pilots have to be certified one way or another, and if the public entity is performing an inherently government function, the class is recommended, but the Part 107 test is not mandatory. But remember that without the Part 107 certification the town will assume responsibilities that your pilot is qualified for operation. There are also tighter restrictions on how you may use a drone.

The Jersey Access Group has teamed with certified flight instructors to assist with studying for the 14 CFR Part 107 Aeronautical Test.

We will also provide scheduled hands-on familiarization flight training by a certified flight instructor.

This ground school module focuses on preparing attendees for the Part 107 Aeronautical Knowledge Test (AKT) by teaching content that directly applies to professional UAS pilots.

ONLY 20 SEATS AVAILABLE

In the event this class fills up a second class will be added on Thursday June 1 through Fridat June 2.

Presented by the Jersey Access Group, an affiliate of the NJ League of Municipalities and Chapter of National Association of Telecommunication Officers and Advisors.
