At The Table: Jimmys Charhouse on March 14, 2017

Faith communities gather around the Lord’s Table, i.e., the altar, regularly. It shapes our time together. What would it look like to expand on that concept and come together in community?

At the Table is a relational ministry for Holy Cross. We meet monthly at an area restaurant in a semi-private space. As we gather at the table, we have the opportunity to share with one another through conversations about life and faith. Order from the menu and enjoy good fellowship and food. Everyone will be responsible for their own charges.

On March 14 we will discuss the Theme: Creating

From the beginning until now, the entire creation as we know it has been groaning in one great act of giving birth.  --Romans 8:22

Creation did not happen once by a flick of the Divine hand, and now it's slowly winding down--which is what we've assumed for most of history. Creation, in fact, is a process that is still happening and winding up, and even better, we're in on it! We are a part of this endless creativity of God. Talk about inclusion and how everything belongs! In other words, YOU matter and YOU make a difference!

According to Brené Brown, it’s beautiful to play music, or tell stories, or make art. But when we start to compare what we create to the creations of others, we stop being creative and start to be competitive and ambitious. Letting go of comparisons is a powerful way wholehearted people become more creative. That is why vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity, and change.

She goes on to say:

1. “I’m not very creative” doesn’t work. There’s no such thing as creative people and non-creative people. There are only people who use their creativity and people who don’t. Unused creativity doesn’t just disappear. It lives within us until it’s expressed, neglected to death, or suffocated by resentment and fear.

2. The only unique contribution that we will ever make in this world will be born of our creativity.

3. If we want to make meaning, we need to make art. Cook, write, draw, doodle, paint, scrapbook, take pictures, collage, knit, rebuild an engine, sculpt, dance, decorate, act, sing—it doesn’t matter. As long as we’re creating, we’re cultivating meaning.

4. Not only is being creative life-giving but not having ways to be creative is life-sapping.

Come and join the discussion!

We will begin to gather at 6:30 p.m. and will officially be finished no later than 8:30 p.m. We will respect the time boundaries and respect people joining and leaving as their schedule allows.

At the Table is for everyone and anyone in any situation. This is not limited to members of Holy Cross.
