In its fourth year, the Pathways from Poverty Breakfast attracts opinion leaders and the interested public from Colorado’s health care, public policy, philanthropic, governmental and nonprofit sectors. The breakfast benefits Colorado Center on Law and Policy, a nonprofit, nonpartisan research and advocacy organization that engages in legislative, administrative and legal advocacy on family economic security and access to health care for low-income Coloradans.

This event offers participants an opportunity to hear a provocative and influential speaker in an environment that’s conducive to networking and discussion.

Along with a keynote address, CCLP confers our Champion of Economic Justice Award on two Coloradans – a legislative leader and a community member - who have made major contributions to advancing the interests of low-income families and to CCLP.

This Year’s Program

This year’s keynote speaker is Ian Haney López, Earl Warren Professor of Law at the University of California, Berkeley. The author of “Dog Whistle Politics: How Coded Racial Appeals Have Reinvented Racism & Wrecked the Middle Class,” Haney López’s current writings emphasize the connection between racial divisions in society and growing wealth inequality in the United States. Haney López will expand on Dog Whistle Politics to address how America can create social solidarity across race and class to rebuild support for a government that helps people achieve enduring economic security. This engaging speaker promises to provide inspiration for an audience hungry for hope and answers.  Professor Haney López will sign copies of his book, “Dog-Whistle Politics: How Coded Racial Appeals Have Reinvented Racism & Wrecked the Middle Class,” immediately following the breakfast.

Our Champion of Economic Justice Awards will celebrate the contributions of Sen. Larry Crowder and CCLP co-founder Edwin Kahn, Esq.
