"Lessons from Celebrity Estate Planning Disasters"

Presented by:  Gregory S. Willams, Attorney at Carruthers & Roth, P.A.

TALK SUMMARY:

Learn to recognize problem areas in the estate planning and administration context by reviewing illustrations of problems and pitfalls in celebrity plans (or lack thereof). Planned giving professionals and others can add value for their donors by understanding risks and issues involved in estate planning and encouraging them to seek help and advice to protect their families with appropriate legal and tax planning

 PRESENTER BIOS:  

Gregory S. Williams’ practice emphasizes estate planning and business law and he counsels clients on preserving assets for family members and charitable organizations, and all aspects of forming, operating and transitioning family and closely held businesses. He is a Board Certified Specialist in Estate Planning and a member of the Estate Planning and Business Law Sections of the North Carolina Bar Association. He is also a frequent lecturer to professional and industry groups on estate and business planning topics.

Greg is a past President and a member of the Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Greensboro and is a member of the Greensboro Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals. Greg is actively involved with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), which helps raise awareness to the organization and the disease. He has served as Corporate Walk Chair for LLS’ “Light the Night” fundraiser and earned the top fundraiser award in multiple years. Greg is also active in his church, Christ United Methodist Church, where he serves on the Endowment Committee and is involved in contemporary worship and small group ministry.

 A native of Richmond, VA, Greg earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and graduated from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law of the College of William and Mary in 1990.  He is married to Wallace, and has two daughters, Rachel and Laura.

Heading East from Winston Salem:  Take I-40Bus E/US 421 S to Kernersville, Take Exit 14 from I-40Bus E/US 421 S.  Turn left on South Main Street (signs for Downtown).  Destination will be on your right.
