Intermediate & Advanced Cross-Asset Excel API

Bloomberg’s API Advanced Specialist, Michael Steele, will demonstrate leveraging the Excel API Add-In with various multi-asset use cases.  Specifically, we will discuss pulling commodity futures and options pricing into Excel (price, volume, open interest), as well as real-time and historical cross-currency rates, EQS (equity screening) searches, Best Estimates and bond pricing.

Bloomberg’s Technical Analysis and Charting Specialist, Tom Schneider, leads a discussion on analyzing Trading Ideas on Bloomberg. Bloomberg's advanced technical tools such as BT (Back Testing), STDY (Custom Study) and TSIG (Trading Signals) allow us to visualize, analyze and optimize ideas around the market within the Bloomberg terminal. We can also schedule screens on our universe (portfolio, watchlist, equity screen results) to monitor for these ideas.  In closing, we will have a general review of creating charts on Bloomberg, adding events and content to your charts and managing your charts library. 

ESG:  Score Your Portfolio

Bloomberg’s Equity Market Specialist, John Fisher, reviews how to utilize Bloomberg to access ESG data and gain a more thorough understanding of the companies within your portfolio or watchlist.  Environmental, Social and Governance data is increasingly becoming a driver in a company's reputation, value and performance. We will cover the process to score your weighted portfolio using Bloomberg and your custom data.

Credit & Fixed Income Analysis

Bloomberg’s Credit and Fixed Income Market Specialist, John Bridge, will lead a discussion on the latest tools of the trade for credit and fixed income analysis.  Bloomberg is the leader in developing the most advanced data, pricing, and analytical solutions in the credit markets. MARS calculators and portfolio tools are fueled by market-leading models and tools that help risk managers fully understand risk exposure, from single trades to the contents of an entire multi-asset portfolio.

 will showcase the latest analytics in the portfolio and index space. We'll discuss the new Bloomberg Barclays index offering and we'll highlight the latest enhancements in our PORT suite of functions, including:  Active Share Analysis, Portfolio Tickerization and Portfolio of Porfolios, Factor-based performance, Portfolio Attribution and Risk Optimization via Risk Parity.

Speaker Biographies

John Bridge, Bloomberg, Senior Credit Market Specialist

 John Bridge has worked with closely with market professionals involved in a variety of products during his Bloomberg career including credit derivatives, MBS, syndicated loans, convertible bonds, interest rates, and interest rate derivatives. He is a chartered member of the CFA Institute and focuses on consultative sales, user education, and Bloomberg development. John specializes in matching robust Bloomberg solutions with the evolving needs of financial professionals.


Constantin Cosereanu, CFA, Bloomberg, Portfolio and Index specialist

Constantin has been with Bloomberg for the past 16 years in multiple roles. Prior to being a Portfolio and Index specialist, he managed Bloomberg Equity Specialists' team in London, UK covering Europe and the Middle East. Constantin has been instrumental in building Bloomberg's Equity Screening/Back-testing and Portfolio Analytics platforms. Constantin started at Bloomberg 16 years ago as key account manager covering Canada's largest buy-side firms, among them some of the largest  pension funds and asset managers in Canada: Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan,  Hospitals of Ontario Pension Plan, Mackenzie Financial, Canada Pension Plan,  AGF, CI Investments and others.   Prior to Bloomberg, he has worked for the Financial Post in Toronto and TD Canada Trust in London, ON.   Constantin is a graduate of the MBA program at The Wilfred Laurier School of Business in Waterloo, Ontario. Constantin has also attended the University of Western Ontario's Economics undergraduate program and has a BSc in Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest, Romania. Constantin is a CFA Charterholder and a member of the Toronto CFA Society. At Bloomberg, Constantin focuses on idea generation and portfolio analytics and has created the Idea Generation column or NI SCREEN <GO>.

John Fisher, CFA, Bloomberg, Equity Specialist

 John Fisher, CFA is a member of the Equity Specialist team covering Canada buy side clients. He is focused on financials, quantitative and portfolio solutions. Formerly, John was a bank analyst, asset based lender and earned his MBA at Michigan State University.

 

 

Alison Fletcher, Bloomberg, Foreign Exchange and Economics Market Specialist

Alison holds a Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) from the Australian National University and a Masters of Science (Development Economics) from the University of London. Prior to Bloomberg, Alison worked for 15 years as a Corporate FX Risk Management Advisor in Sydney, London and most recently in Singapore. She has worked for global banks such as HSBC, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Commerzbank and Abn Amro/RBS. Alison has published articles in Global Treasurer News and Bloomberg Markets Magazine and has been a guest speaker at the ACT Singapore, ASEAN Risk, The Corporate Treasurer, ACI Philippines, FinanceAsia, CTCFO Indonesia, Windy City Summit, Eurofinance, Texpo and the Canadian National, Ottawa, American National, Philadelphia and Minnesota AFP’s.  

Cameron Friesen, Minister of Finance

Member of Legislative Assembly of Manitoba: 2011 - Present.

Minister of Finance: 2016 - Present.

Born and raised in Morden, Manitoba, Cameron received degrees from the Canadian Mennonite University and the University of British Columbia. Cameron later earned his education degree at the University of Manitoba and taught for 12 years in the public school system. He subsequently served as Executive Assistant for the local Member of Parliament for Portage-Lisgar. Cameron was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba in the 2011 provincial election, in the constituency of Morden-Winkler.  Prior to the 2016 election, Cameron was a member of the Public Accounts Committee and served as critic for Education, Health and Finance. Currently, under Premier Brian Pallister, Cameron serves as Minister of Finance, Minister responsible for the Civil Service, and Chair of the Treasury Board. He is a member of the government's Planning and Priorities Cabinet Committee and is the first acting for the Minister of Growth, Enterprise & Trade. Cameron loves southern Manitoba-the people, the history, the family focus, the work ethic, and the commitment to helping others. Cameron and his wife Shelley have two daughters and a son and currently reside in the City of Morden. Cameron tabled his second provincial budget on April 11th, 2017. Key legislation introduced within his portfolio includes balanced budget legislation, red tap reduction on businesses, non-profits, and local governments, and ensuring Manitoba's public services are financially sustainable. Cameron is proud of the new government's early efforts to get results, set a new course toward financial stabilization and economic prosperity, and achieve a better Manitoba. 

Tom Schneider, Markets Specialist, Charting/Technical Analysis

 With nearly 20 years’ experience in analyzing all financial assets, Tom is enjoys speaking on classic and new thinking in technical analysis. He enjoyed a 3-year stint developing analytics for baseball professionals while launching a new Bloomberg business, Bloomberg Sports.  His specialties include technical analysis, data visualization, custom study writing, back testing and optimization.  Tom frequently contributes to various Bloomberg media, including the Technical Analysis Brief, Functions for the Market, Bloomberg Markets magazine, and Bloomberg Chart Books.

Sterling Smith, Bloomberg, Agriculture Market Specialist

Sterling Smith is an Agricultural Commodity Application Specialist for Bloomberg. In this role he interacts with many members of both the agricultural and Bloomberg Communities. Mr. Smith works directly with Bloomberg’s agriculturally oriented users to help them get the most from their terminals. He also works internally with his fellow employees to increase the understanding of both agriculture and agriculture as it applies to the Bloomberg terminal. Mr. Smith has spoken at many agricultural events over his 20+ year career and has made many media appearances discussing various issues in agriculture. Prior to joining Bloomberg Mr. Smith was the Agricultural Market Analyst at Citibank in Chicago where on daily basis he covered grains, oilseeds, cocoa, coffee, cotton, orange juice and sugar. Prior to Citi, he was a Senior Market analyst for CHS Hedging in St. Paul, MN. Prior to that, he operated an introducing broker at the Chicago Board of Trade. One of Sterling’s first jobs was selling corn in eastern Nebraska. Mr. Smith holds a degree in Communication/Journalism with additional concentrations in economics and sociology.

Michael Steele, Bloomberg, API Advanced Specialist

Michael Steele Joined Bloomberg in January of 2015, and currently covers Commodities and Derivatives in Bloomberg Analytics. He is responsible for providing solutions to the most complex questions our clients have about the terminal and markets. Michael graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Economics, and has previous internship experience in energy consulting and sustainability policy research.

 

Yon Valtchev, Bloomberg, FI & Credit Trading

Yon’s career in Finance & Banking spans over 20 years. Before joining Bloomberg, Yon spent 18yrs in Banking covering roles in Cross-Asset Trading, Risk Management (Market & Credit) and Finance. Since joining Bloomberg, Yon is working closely with Corporate Treasuries in assisting them in assessing and hedging exposure in FX and Interest Rates, test hedge effectiveness and perform credit analysis for transfer pricing.
