BABYSITTER TRAINING
(for students age 12 and up)

Learn how to care for babies and children safely and responsibly. Includes: accident prevention, fire safety, emergencies, kids at different ages, and employer/employee responsibilities. Successful participants receive a certificate. Students must be 12 years of age within two months of the workshop. Please bring a nut free lunch and drink.

READY, SET, SOLO! 
(for students age 11 and up, along with a parent)

Together, you and your child create a plan for your child to stay at home alone safely and confidently. Discuss concerns related to your family, create guidelines, and increase communication between you and your child. Includes: home safety, family rules, emergencies, and strangers. Please Note: In Manitoba, children must not be left home alone until the are 12 years of age.

BASIC STUDY SKILLS FOR STUDENTS
(for students in grades 6 to 9)

Students learn to be more organized and better prepared for tests and school work. Students identify their learning style (visual, auditory, tactile) and learn about strategies for each style. This program is not for students who require extra support in a learning environment.

FIRST AID AND CPR FOR BABYSITTERS

Learn to save a life! First Aid is the first step in addressing the needs of someone in a medical emergency. Learn techniques to determine the course of treatment until advanced medical help arrives. Students also learn CPR, an emergency procedure that is used to restore blood flow to someone in cardiac arrest. Are you ready to take action if someone needed help? Students must be 12 years old within 2 months of the workshop date.

TRIPLE P - POSITIVE PARENTING PROGRAM
(for parents of children ages 0 to 12) 

Learn practical strategies to help confidently manage your child's behaviour, prevent problems, and build strong, healthy relationships. Triple P is a research-based parenting program with evidence to show it works. No childminding available.

Dates: Mondays, for 3 weeks, May 1, May 8 and May 15 (3 weeks)
Time:
 7:00 – 9:00 pm

Fee: $35 per person or $45 per couple

PARENTING STRATEGIES AND ADHD
(for parents of children ages 6 to 12 with ADHD) 

Explore parenting strategies such as effective communication and positive discipline to strengthen your relationship with your child. Topics include: teaching new skills, defining rules, responding to challenging behaviours consistently, planning for potentially difficult situations, and being an advocate for your child's needs. No proof of diagnosis required. This program is not for families undergoing an assessment process.

Dates: Thursdays, for 5 weeks, from May 4 through June 1

HOW TO TEACH YOUR KIDS ABOUT MONEY
(for parents of children of all ages)

Presented by Sharon Bain, CPA Canada 

Information, tips, worksheets, tools, and other resources for parents to help them raise kids who are financially independent and responsible, including age appropriate teaching, dealing with contentious money issues, and more. The focus is on money related topics appropriate for young kids, pre-teens, teenagers, and emerging adults. This session will also include a short discussio at the end about a potential new program for young adults (12-16 year olds) who are preparing to enter the volunteer or paid workforce.

TECHNOLOGY AND ETIQUETTE
(for parents of children ages 8 and up) 

There are so many ways to communicate with each other in the world today, and the use of technology has made it quicker, more convenient, and easier than ever before. Each form of communication has it's upsides and it's downsides. Come and explore etiquette in the world of technology, and learn what is rude or appropriate, a better form of communication for various situations, and how to make those judgement calls.

ANXIETY IN CHILDREN (Presented by A.D.A.M.)
(for parents of children ages 5 to 12) 

Do you have a child who is anxious? Looking for ways to help? Join Anxiety Disorders Association of Manitoba (A.D.A.M.) to explore the different aspects of childhood anxiety, including signs and symptoms, thought patterns, and different types of anxiety. Learn about ways to help a child who is struggling with anxiety.

ALPHABET SOUP
(for parents of children ages 2 to 6) 

Alphabet Soup brings together the goals of encouraging a love and language of books, while expanding children's healthy eating experiences. Families will enjoy learning together about food and healthy eating through rhymes, songs, and stories. Interactive snack time provides the chance to try new things, while providing parents with new healthy food ideas and information. Parents will have the opportunity to separately engage in discussion while their children play and create art.

Dates: Wednesdays, for 6 weeks, from May 10 through June 14

PARENT EDUCATOR 1 on 1 APPOINTMENTS
(for parents and caregivers) 

This individualized one on one service will provide you, in your role as parent, with an opportunity to focus on challenges you are experiencing with your child.

Fee: $45 per hour, pre-payment is necessary

Registration for Children and Youth Programs: Please register only your own child. 

REFUND POLICY: If you withdraw from a program more than seven days prior to the start date, you may receive a refund of your course fee, less a $5.00 administration fee. After this time, or once the program has started no refunds will be made. Full refunds will be issued if we cancel a course.  

PLEASE NOTE: All courses must be pre-paid. Payment must be received within 7 days of registration in order to guarantee your spot in the class. If payment has not been received, SWFIC reserves the right to cancel your registration.
