This course describes the care needs of children with life limiting and life threatening illness from diagnosis to end of life utilizing an interdisciplinary patient/family centered approach to care. It provides the basic assessment, caring and communication skills for clinicians providing palliative care to children and families with life threatening illness. Home care clinicians are in a position to assist families in critical decision making and goal revision due to their extended interactions in the home setting. Quality outcomes may be achieved by providing training to interdisciplinary team members and incorporating National Hospice and Palliative Care Organizations (NHPCO) guidelines to children and families.
