Sustainability Planning Using the GRC2 Framework

You are invited to the April meeting of the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus Environment Committee to discuss the Greenest Region Compact 2 (GRC2) Framework in a workshop format.  The GRC2 Framework is a powerful tool that municipalities can use to guide their sustainability planning.  It is scalable for communities that are new to sustainability planning and simply want guidance to prioritize their sustainability action.  It can also be used to create a comprehensive community sustainability plan or update an existing one.

Representatives from the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus will introduce the GRC2 Framework; and the communities of Hanover Park, Highland Park and Schaumburg will discuss their experiences using the Framework.

Municipal staff, elected officials, and citizen commissioners are invited to this free workshop.

Parking:
* Please park at the far west end of the Metra Commuter Lot (1950 W. Lake Street, on the south side of Lake Street [Route 20] at Church St.).  Follow signs to Daily Metered lot then take the sidewalk along Lake Street to the main entrance of the Police Station.  There is no charge for parking during the meeting.

Background:

The Greenest Region Compact 2 has two parts.

1. The Greenest Region Compact 2 is a municipal pledge to support commonly-recognized sustainability goals.  Adopt a municipal resolution supporting the Greenest Region Compact 2.  Download the model resolution in Word here.  Adoption of the Compact does not require a commitment to specific actions. Report your successful adoption to emakra@mayorscaucus.org

2. The GRC2 Framework is a tool offering an extensive menu of sustainability objectives and strategies aligned with the consensus goals of the Greenest Region Compact 2.  To create this tool, the Caucus synthesized sustainability goals from 30 sustainability plans published by municipalities in our region, and 9 regional and national plans.  Municipalities often compare plans and programs produced by neighboring communities to inform their own initiatives.  The GRC2 Framework does this for you and presents options in a clear and strategic format.  The Framework can also be downloaded as interactive tool in Excel format.
