2017 KOA & NSUOCO Expanded Therapeutic Course 

The Kentucky Optometric Association and the Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry will present "Surgical Procedures for the Optometric Physician and Laser Therapy for the Anterior Segment" courses on July 13-16 in Lexington, KY at the Marriott Griffin Gate Hotel.  The 32 Expanded Therapeutic  (ETP) course will be presented by both lecture and workshops.  The course topics covered are listed below.

The Minor Surgical Procedure course will be covered on the 13th & 14th.  The Laser course is covered on the 15th & 16th.  The tentative schedule has the course on Thursday, the 13th beginning around Noon, and the course would be finished by 1:00pm on Sunday, July 16th.  Lexington is in the eastern time zone.   Both courses will be COPE approved. 

 

Minor Surgical Procedures course topics will include (Cope approved):
* Structure & Function of the Periocular Skin/
    Common Skin Lesions
*Local Anesthesia: Techniques & Complications
*Surgical Instruments, Asepsis, & OSHA: Overview
*Chalazion Management
*Introduction to Epiluminesence (ELM) Microscopy
* Introduction to Radiofrequency Surgery
*Post-Operative Wound Care
* Approach to Various Pericular Skin Lesions
* Coding & Billing for the Anterior Segment
* Introduction to Suturing
* Anaphylaxis and other Office Emergencies
*Panel Discussion
**Hands-on Laboratory will cover:
    -Utilization of Radiofrequency Surgical Handpiece
    -Injections / Venipuncture
    -Suture Techniques

Laser Course topics will include (COPE approved) :
* Laser Physics, Hazards & Safety
*Laser Tissue Interactions
*Clinical Workshop: Intro to Therapeutic Lasers
*Gonioscopy: How to Interpret What You are Seeing
*Laser Therapy for the Open Angle Glaucoma
* Laser Therapy in Angle Closure
*Posterior Capsulotomy
* Common Complications - Lids, Lashes, Lacrimal
* Medicolegal Aspects of Anterior Segment Procedures
**Hands-on Laboratory will cover:
    -Posterior Capsulotomy
    -Peripherial Iridotomy
    -Gonioscopy and Laser Lenses
    -Laser Trabeculoplasty

 

The course will have limited seating, so be sure to reserve your spot now.  A $500 deposit is due when you register for the course.  The course costs $2000 (includes food functions over the four days).  Course handouts will be provided.
