2017 Summer Camp Volunteer-Medical Professional

Hemophilia of Iowa and UIHC Hemophilia Treatment Center invite medical professionals outside of the treatment center to join in our efforts to offer a rewarding camp for our youth aged 6-17 as they come together for our annual Summer Camp hosted at Camp Tanager.

Medical education takes place at various times through camp but the biggest medical time we spend is on infusions.  Infusion time generally takes place between 8 and 9 a.m. each day.  Of course, there are some unscheduled infusions and medical needs that are needed throughout each day.

Please consider joining us to offer this time for families.  Camp is a time for families to enjoy a week without having to stress about the care of their child with a bleeding disorder.  Our goal each year is for each camper to leave more independent in their self-care as they were prior to joining us at camp.     Thank you in advance for considering attending.  If you have specific questions, please direct them to Michelle Krantz at 319-356-2890 or via email at michelle-krantz@uiowa.edu.  Registration questions can be directed to Kari Atkinson at hoi_president@yahoo.com or 319-721-3964

Schedule at A Glance

Each camp day is packed with fun, exciting and educational activities.  Here are a few examples of what we have planned!

Sunday: Camp drop off including fun pool time, pizza party and time to get acquainted with Camp and Camp Staff.

Monday: Highlights include woodworking, archery, GAGA ball and a Pool Party.  Campers will pick from a list of electives to take part in their favorite camp activities.

Tuesday:  Its field trip day with a trip to Bell's Farm Pond.  The campers will enjoy kayaking, fishing and swimming.  The night will end with an epic karaoke dance party.

Wednesday:   All campers will participate in a medical education rotation!  Then they will enjoy more time for electives, swimming and relax at the end of the day with a movie on the big screen!  Special overnight activity planned for campers 12 and up.

Thursday:  We are off on an adventure--this time to Lost Island Waterpark!  Evening activities include Camp Tanagers famous grill out BBQ and end of week campfire!

Friday:  It's our last day at camp so it is full of fun and friendship!  Campers will work with their cabin friends for the end of week talent show performance and enjoy the final few hours with their new (and old) camp friends.
