Incorporating Safety Data in the Planning Process at the Rural Level 

The National Center for Rural Road Safety (Safety Center) is hosting a FREE, 1.5-hour online webinar. 

Webinar Description
This webinar will provide an overview of the elements of safety data analysis and identify opportunities to integrate safety data into the transportation planning process.

Webinar Outcomes
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

• Summarize the purpose of transportation safety planning
• List approaches to collect safety data
• Compare safety analysis methods
• Identify opportunities to apply safety data and analysis to the planning process

Target Audience
This training is directed towards a very broad transportation planning and safety audience including, but not limited to, county and city planners and engineers, public health experts, law enforcement and safety culture experts. Participants should have some basic familiarity with transportation safety.

Course Presenters

Nicole Waldheim, Associate, Cambridge Systematics

• Nicole leads the transportation safety planning practice at CS. Having previously served as the Interim Director of an MPO, she applies her first-hand knowledge of the intricacies of the performance-based planning process to work with MPOs and RTPOs to integrate safety into long- and short-range transportation planning documents.

Danena Gaines, Ph.D., Senior Associate, Cambridge Systematics

• Danena has over 10 years of experience working with State DOTs to update and implement their SHSPs and helping MPOs identify opportunities to incorporate safety into the long range planning process. Her research background and professional experience include developing and conducting surveys and interviews to collect transportation safety planning practices and culture challenges at state and local agencies. Danena has developed numerous transportation safety planning training workshops and courses.
