7-13-17 Scholastic Summer Literacy Summit : Guided Reading: Differentiation in Middle School ELA


Target Audience: Scholastic Professional Learning


As a differentiated reading strategy, Guided Reading can be used to create strategic readers in middle school classrooms or intervention settings. Through Guided Reading, these students learn reading and comprehension strategies to apply to all reading situations. The program expands students’ reading power by giving them the tools to process new texts successfully. Participants will review the research behind Guided Reading and observe a lesson in action.

Learner Outcomes:

  • Define Guided Reading.
  • Explain the purpose of Guided Reading and why it should be used.
  • Identify how Guided Reading supports middle school readers.
  • Understand leveled and appropriate text.
  • Explain the before-, during-, and after- sections of a Guided Reading lesson.

Please dress in layers as it can be difficult to adjust the temperature.

Attendance Policy:

If you register to attend a session, but find you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration as early as possible. Space is limited and by canceling you will allow others to benefit from these highly qualified professional development opportunities. A fee could be assessed for no shows.

Districts will be notified of those who registered and did not attend or did not cancel prior to be session.
