Landscape Essentials

This workshop for green industry professionals (landscapers/landscape contractors, nursery growers, irrigation contractors, pesticide applicators, etc.) focuses on essential tools needed for the trade. Participants will receive practical information and earn CEUs.

Agenda

12:30 - 1:00 p.m. - Check-in, On-site Registration (if space permits), and Welcome

1:00 - 1:50 p.m. - Using Plant Phenology for Pest Scouting. We all know that the weather changes from one year to the next and often from one valley to another.  Understanding Growing Degree Days and the resulting changes in plant and insect life cycles can help us plan our pest management strategies better than following the calendar. This presentation will allow you to explore a concept of Integrated Pest Management that is gaining attention across the US and Europe and give you some different insight into Using Plant Phenology as part of your scouting practices.

Instructor: Cliff Ruth, Area Agent and Regional Certification Program Coordinator, Agriculture, NCSU Cooperative Extension.

Credits Approved: (1) NC Pesticide Credit - Categories B, D, G, H, I, L, N, O, X,  and   (1) NC Landscape Contractor Credit

2:00 - 2:50 p.m. - Water Efficiency and Uniformity In the Landscape. Water is a key component in the landscape. Using too much or too little water can cost green industry businesses precious time and money. Participants will learn about water efficiency and uniformity, then complete a hands-on exercise to help them better calculate water use in the landscape.

Then she will lead an exercise to help participants determine their social media goals and a strategy to help them achieve those goals.
